- Internet Connection – Confirm all test taking devices have a stable internet connection before the exam begins.
- Microphone Check – To avoid any issues during the Speaking Module, check all headsets are connected properly and conduct a microphone check on every test taking device just before the exam session. You can do this via the devices’ system settings.
- Topic/Prepared Talk Preparation:
- Topic Notes Readiness – Ensure that all candidates have their topic notes ready.
- Topic Notes Format – Candidate’s topic notes must not contain more than 4–5 short bullet points (not full sentences or scripts). The invigilator needs to check the front and back of all topic notes before the start of the exam session.
- Natural Speech – Ensure candidates use their notes as prompts only. They need to speak naturally and avoid reading from their notes. Candidates should also be discouraged to memorise their prepared talk to ensure a natural topic presentation.
- Note Taking During the Exam: Paper and pen notes are not permitted. Candidates can take digital notes during the exam where appropriate.
- Speaking Module:
- Starting the Speaking Module – As Soon as the avatar has completed finished speaking and prompt the candidate to record their response now, the recording will automatically be initiated and the candidate should start speaking immediately.
- Listening Module:
- Responding Whilst Listening – Candidates should respond to the questions whilst listening to the audio and not exceed the 20 minutes recommended for the completion of the task.
- Reading Module:
- Reading for Gist – Candidates should be encouraged to read through the material to understand the main message before focusing on specific details. They should work swiftly through the material to ensure they will complete this module within the recommended 20-minute timeframe.
- Writing Module:
- Time Management – The invigilator should remind candidates (as set out in the invigilation script) to leave enough time to complete the writing module before the exam ends.
- Water – Candidates may have one unlabelled bottle of water with them during the exam.
