TESOL course fees, dates, duration and study options

Modified on Fri, 30 Oct at 3:03 PM

Trinity College London offers a range of TESOL qualifications for people starting or developing their careers in English language teaching.

Course fees, dates, duration and study options depend on the qualification you choose and, where applicable, the Trinity-validated course provider delivering it.

This article explains what to consider when planning your studies and where to find further information.

How much does a Trinity TESOL course cost?

For qualifications delivered through Trinity-validated course providers, fees are set by the individual provider.

This applies to:

  • CertTESOL – Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

  • TYLEC – Teaching Young Learners Extension Certificate

  • CertPT – Certificate for Practising Teachers

  • DipTESOL – Diploma in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Trinity does not publish a single course fee that applies to all providers.

Before applying, contact your chosen provider to confirm the total cost and whether assessment fees are included.

CertOT – Certificate in Online Teaching follows a different process. It is accessed through Trinity's online learning and assessment arrangements rather than the usual validated course provider route. See Trinity Teach English Online and CertOT – Course and qualification guide for further information.

How long does each qualification take?

Trinity qualifications have specified learning hours, but these do not necessarily represent the number of weeks or months needed to complete a course.

QualificationGuided learning hoursTotal qualification time
CertTESOL130 hours200 hours
TYLEC58 hours100 hours
CertPT30 hours100 hours
CertOT30 hours50 hours
DipTESOL150 hours600 hours

Guided learning hours are the hours spent undertaking learning activities under the guidance or supervision of a tutor, teacher or other appropriate provider.

Total qualification time includes guided learning and the estimated time spent on independent study, preparation and assessment.

These figures provide an indication of the study commitment involved. They do not establish a fixed course duration. For example, a course delivered part-time may take longer in calendar weeks than one with a more intensive timetable.

For qualifications delivered by validated providers, contact the provider to confirm the expected course duration and weekly study commitment.

When do Trinity TESOL courses start?

Course dates are arranged by individual validated course providers.

Providers can advise you about:

  • Upcoming course start dates.

  • Application and enrolment arrangements.

  • Course timetables.

  • Expected completion dates.

To find a provider offering your chosen qualification, use the Trinity TESOL course provider search.

For CertOT, refer to the separate online learning and assessment information in Trinity Teach English Online and CertOT – Course and qualification guide.

Can I study online or part-time?

Study options depend on the qualification and the arrangements offered by the course provider.

Depending on the course, providers may offer face-to-face, online or blended learning, as well as different study schedules.

Not every qualification or provider offers every study option.

Before enrolling, ask your chosen provider:

  • Whether the course is available online, face-to-face or through blended learning.

  • Whether full-time or part-time study is available.

  • Whether attendance at scheduled sessions is required.

  • How teaching practice and assessments are arranged.

Studying for CertOT online

Trinity Teach English Online is a 30-hour modular self-study course consisting of 10 units.

Teachers who wish to gain the separate CertOT qualification complete four assessment tasks, with an additional 20 hours of study and assessment work included in the qualification's total time.

For information about accessing the course and registering for assessment, see Trinity Teach

English Online and CertOT – Course and qualification guide.

How can I compare course options?

Before choosing a course, consider:

  • Qualification: Does it match your experience and professional goals?

  • Entry requirements: Are you eligible to enrol?

  • Total cost: What fees will you need to pay?

  • Time commitment: How many hours of study and assessment will be required?

  • Study format: Is the delivery method suitable for you?

  • Course schedule: Can you attend the required sessions and complete the course within the expected timeframe?

For qualifications delivered through validated providers, contact the provider directly to confirm these arrangements before applying.
