How to raise a complaint or appeal about a Trinity TESOL qualification

Modified on Fri, 30 Oct at 3:08 PM

If you have a concern about your Trinity College London TESOL course or assessment, the appropriate process depends on whether you want to make a complaint or appeal an assessment decision.

Trinity College London is the awarding organisation for its TESOL qualifications. CertTESOL, TYLEC, CertPT and DipTESOL courses are delivered by independent Trinity-validated course providers.

What is the difference between a complaint and an appeal?

A complaint concerns an aspect of your experience, such as the delivery or administration of a course.

An appeal concerns an assessment decision or the way an assessment was conducted.

The grounds on which a complaint or appeal can be considered depend on the relevant Trinity policy and qualification requirements.

Complaints about your course provider

  • If you are studying for CertTESOL, TYLEC, CertPT or DipTESOL and have a concern about your course, contact your course provider.
  • Course providers are responsible for their own course arrangements and must have procedures for handling relevant complaints and feedback.
  • Your provider should be able to explain its complaints procedure and how to raise your concern.
  • If your concern relates to whether a course has been delivered in accordance with Trinity's requirements, ask your provider about the relevant Trinity complaints procedure.

If you believe there has been a problem with an assessment decision or assessment procedure, consult the appeals information provided for your qualification.

For CertTESOL, TYLEC, CertPT and DipTESOL, your validated course provider can advise you about the relevant requirements and how to proceed.

An appeal is not necessarily an opportunity to have an assessment mark reconsidered simply because you disagree with it. The grounds for appeal are determined by the applicable policy.

Complaints or appeals relating to CertOT

The Certificate in Online Teaching (CertOT) follows a separate online registration and assessment process, with assessment carried out by Trinity.

If your concern relates to CertOT assessment, refer to Trinity's relevant policies and procedures rather than a validated course provider's internal complaints process.

Where can I find Trinity's policies?

Trinity publishes its policies and procedures on its website.
